Kaasstengels (Dutch kaas, cheese,
stengel, stem) are pastries made from flour dough, egg, margarine, and grated
cheese. This cake is rectangular, about 3-4 cm long and 1 cm wide, and baked in
an oven to golden yellow.
The type of cheese used depends on the
recipes and tastes of the people who make it, it can be Gouda cheese, Edam, or
cheddar cheese. Parmesan cheese is also often used to make the cake more
fragrant.
